My job as a house manager has begun and I have hit the ground running! I don't even run and yet, it's time to lace up my sneakers.
Yesterday I had a temp gig stuffing duffel bags for a conference in the afternoon before I went to the theatre. Bag stuffing was easy. It was a bit annoying because the temp agency had us dress up which turned out to be overkill. The people who actually worked there were in sweats and I was sweating in my black dress pants and blouse.
From there, I went straight to the theatre via train and bus (I could take the same route I did last night of Blue Line Train/55 Bus or my usual 74 Bus/Red Line Train interchangeably and they'd take roughly the same amount of time but the Blue Line version of requires me to walk 20 minutes and that seems stupid). I thought I was going to be hanging out and watching the show but no, I was doing stuff right away! They gave me a plaid shirt and let me lose. I can't really tell you much of what my job includes because I'm still confused.
Last night's show was called We Gotta Bingo! And it's dinner theatre and BINGO. There were a lot of things happening. Our other show that opens on Thursday is called Tony N Tina's Wedding and it involves an actual church. Church that I'm going to be getting the keys to apparently. Yeah, I'm getting the keys to the metaphorical castle. The castle that's a church...
I went back today because I thought I was going to sign my contract but once again, running! It turned into a full blown training session where I learned about a lot of my pre-show duties. I'm not overwhelmed by it, but it is a lot of information to take in so it's going to take some practice.
After that, got on the train because I had to go to orientation for another gig I have coming up but I had a few hours to kill so I stopped at Red Eyes Coffee. I'm going to do a more thorough review when my brain isn't quite as full with show/theatre stuff but I picked this place over other coffee shops in the area because they have ice cream so it would be wrong to come here without getting myself some. So for now, I'm going to unwind, use the wifi, eat some ice cream and get ready for my next meeting.
